How can I re-engage my child if their interest drops?

Modified on Wed, 24 Jun at 3:48 PM

It’s normal for children’s interest in learning to change from time to time, especially as lessons become more challenging or the novelty begins to wear off. Small adjustments can often help rebuild engagement quickly.

Start by checking whether the lesson level feels right. If activities are too easy, children may become bored; if they’re too difficult, they may feel frustrated. You can adjust the lesson level or revisit the Placement Test if needed.

Short, low-pressure sessions can also help. Sitting with your child occasionally, celebrating small achievements, and showing interest in what they’re learning can make the experience feel more positive and encouraging.

You can also refresh their interest by:

  • Exploring other programs such as Mathseeds or Fast Phonics
  • Using the Library for choice-based reading with over 4,000 eBooks
  • Mixing online learning with everyday activities like reading signs, shopping lists, menus, games, measuring, or telling time

Keeping learning varied, flexible, and positive will help build confidence and encourage long-term learning habits.
